In 1983 four writers (Bruce Birchall, Paul Goetzee, Jim Morris and Denis Wainwright) met in a pub called Chaucers and began to put on plays at lunchtime. Since then, as the Company has developed, The New Works Theatre Co. (formerly LLT, Liverpool's New Writing Theatre), has set many writers on course for professional careers in stage, tv and
radio. From Chaucers the Company moved to the Albert Dock, the Royal Institution, the Playhouse Studio, the Unity Theatre and finally to our present address
at the offices of Hope Street Ltd. The New Works have produced full length plays, won commissions for
writers, worked in schools, toured abroad, secured regular funding from Arts Council England and landed a three year lottery funded project called PRODUCTION
LINE. Since 2005 The New Works have also received funding from the Liverpool Culture Company to assist with our work in the run up to Liverpool's 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations.
